TriLink's Ride the Route 2024

In 2022 an annual charity challenge was set up to bring the rail community together to deliver social value, demonstrating the industry's desire to do collective good. This year we move over from the East Coast as we take on the TriLink Ride the Route challenge.

TriLink's values are Ambitions, Inclusive, Curious and Legacy Forming - everything that the Ride the Route series aims to be.

Since it began, Ride the Route has raised over £100,000 for Railway Children.

READY TO TAKE ON THE CHALLENGE?

This is the perfect event for individuals and teams alike!

Whether you are a seasoned cyclist, or a novice on the pedals, you can choose the full three-day challenge or take on a one-day ride all with like-minded people by your side!

This year marks the third ride, which sees us moving over to the West Coast Mainline and covering around 390km from Glasgow to Manchester.

All funds raised will go to Railway Children, providing protection and opportunity for children with nowhere else to go and nobody to turn to.

THE ROUTE

We will be starting at Glasgow Central station, a pivotal location for Railway Children, who set up their latest project there in September 2023.

  •  Day 1 - the first leg will take us just over the boarder to Gretna (140km)
  •  Day 2 - sees the team cycle down to Lancaster (130km)
  •  Day 3 - the final day taking everyone into Manchester Piccadilly Station (100km)

Participants can sign up to the full 3-day event or join us for a 1-day leg. This event is suitable for all levels of cyclists with multiple pelotons being created to support all abilities.

Registration for the full event is £60, with a minimum fundraising pledge of £350.

What's included

We'll provide support vans - which will include lots of snacks! Plus medical support, daytime food, water and electrolytes, Peloton navigation leaders, route maps and GPX files for bike computers.

We have multiple sponsorship packages available for this event which include free rider registration and a generous marketing package surrounding the event. Please get in touch for more information.

This event also hosts an annual gala dinner to celebrate the achievements of the riders as well as announce the route for the following years event. If you would like to attend the gala to see what Ride the Route all is about, please email our events team at events@railwaychildren.org.uk

THE TRILINK PROGRAMME

TriLink is a Network Rail programme to ‘intelligently’ renew the West Coast Main Line (WCML) route with modern digital signalling capability whilst taking the opportunity to also adjust layouts to better reflect industry needs.

The WCML connects London to Glasgow, and the Trilink programme is delivering upgrades between Warrington and Carlisle passing through the scenic Lake District. The assets are being renewed so they are safer, easier to maintain, and more reliable, to minimise disruption to passengers and freight while reducing the volume of costly signalling work.
