…But sometimes, relationships can also be complicated or challenging.

No matter what’s happening, you deserve respect and kindness from the people around you—and you have the power to build the relationships you want.

We have some tips to help you understand the ups and downs of relationships, build healthy connections and handle any difficulties you may face:

1. Healthy relationships: Respect, trust and communication are key to any strong relationship. A healthy relationship makes you feel safe, supported and valued.

2. Setting boundaries: Remember it’s okay to say no and set limits. Boundaries help protect your mental health and ensure mutual respect.

3. Handling conflict: Arguments happen even in the best relationships. Focus on listening, staying calm and expressing your feelings honestly. If things get heated, it’s okay to take a break and revisit the conversation later.

4. Family challenges: Disagreements can happen in families. If you’re struggling to communicate, try writing down how your feel or talk to someone outside the family.

5. Friendship struggles: Friendships can change and that’s okay. If they feel one-sided, draining or hurtful, you can take a step back. Surround yourself with people who treat you with kindness.

6. Romantic relationships: A romantic relationship should make you feel happy and confident, not pressured or controlled. If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and speak to an adult you trust.

7. Dealing with loneliness: Feeling alone can be tough, but there are many ways to build connections. You could join a club in your local area, try volunteering or reach out to someone you haven’t spoken to in a while. You’re not as alone as you might think.
