330 people, 9 stations, 1 night… thousands of children’s lives transformed

Railway Children’s annual sleepout event held on January 30th was a huge success, thanks to the incredible support we had from across the rail industry.

Temperatures were low, but spirits were high as out participants gathered up and down the country at nine different locations to spend the night sleeping in the station. It was only one night of hardship but the event gave an idea of what some of the children we work with have to put up with every night.

  • 330 people took part in our second ever sleepout
  • 9 different stations hosted the event across the country
  • The event was televised, broadcast and widely shared on social media

This made the event a huge success, raising far more than we even dared to expect…

The #BigStationSleepout 2020 raised over £135,000!

The total amount raised would be enough to set up and operate a safeguarding project for a whole year at one of the UK’s railway stations where there are a high number of children at risk.

This money will help us follow up on the referrals British Transport Police pass to us when they find young people in danger on the rail network. We will be able to talk to them, their families and their schools and keep working with them until we know they are safe.

Thanks to all those that took part, as well as sponsors Volkerail and Network Rail, we’ll be able to be there for as long as it takes and until we know they will stay safe for good.
