Understanding Neurodivergence
The thing is, most of us feel this way sometimes – whether we show it or not! And even the most confident person will sometimes feel insecure. Everyone has bits of themselves they’d rather not let other people see, and we all adapt who we are from time to time so we fit in. But if this is happening a lot, it can start to be damaging.
Surrounding yourself with people who accept you for who you are can build your identity and give you the confidence to be yourself. And don’t worry if you’re not sure who that ‘self’ is yet – we’re all working that through, and it might change with different stages of life.
In school, they can give you a lot of support once they know.
You might be given extra time in exams or be allowed to use a laptop or sit in a certain seat in the classroom.
Learning differently doesn’t mean you can’t do well at school.
If you know you have a difference in how you learn or how you process information or emotions, just be open. Once you tell people so they can help, it gets so much easier.
